Take control of electricity usage with a PowerShift time-of-use monthly pricing plan.
Sometimes, just by changing when we do things we can save money. Like flying a "redeye," getting summer hotel rates or going to a matinee movie. Now you can get the same kind of non-prime-time discounts from Tucson Electric Power. It’s all part of the TEP PowerShift™ time-of-use monthly pricing programs. |

The first step to saving under PowerShift is conservation – eliminate unnecessary energy usage and use energy-efficient appliances and lighting. Then, by shifting the bulk of your remaining peak (highest-priced) and shoulder (mid-priced) electricity usage to off-peak (lowest-priced) you will save money and help support a cleaner environment. So first conserve – then shift.
A new way to reduce your electric bill, and help the environment.
At TEP, at least during summer hours, avoiding "prime time" means minimizing usage during the hot Arizona afternoons, when demand skyrockets, and the market price of electricity soars. By reducing the daytime demand, you also help conserve energy and protect the environment. It's the ultimate $GREEN thing to do.
By shifting when you use certain appliances to off-peak hours, we can help you save. This means choosing to do the laundry, running the dishwasher, or running the pool pump during the (lowest-priced) off-peak hours.
An average residential customer, shifting two-thirds of peak and shoulder usage to off-peak can save around 6 percent on his or her annual electric bill. Savings will vary based on individual usage patterns.
How does PowerShift work?
If you can shift appliance use and other electricity-consuming activities to specific times of the day or eliminate some usage entirely then you are a prime candidate for money-saving PowerShift rates.
With PowerShift, the time of day when you use kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity will determine how much you pay for them. Initial setup of this time-of-use pricing plan is free, including the installation of a new electric meter. The new meter will track the number of kWh you use and the time of day you use them. The time-of-use meter can tell TEP how many kWh have been used during the Peak, Shoulder, or Off-Peak periods. When calculating the bill, TEP will apply the Peak rate to Peak kWh, the Shoulder rate to Shoulder kWh and the Off-Peak rate to Off-Peak kWh.

How do I get the most from the new PowerShift?
With PowerShift, you could save money by taking control and keeping "prime-time" electricity usage to a minimum. The more you shift use of electrical appliances from on-peak to off-peak time periods, the better. For instance:
- Set timers on pool or spa pumps to run during off-peak hours.
- Operate washing machines, clothes dryers, dishwashers and non-essential appliances during off-peak hours.
- Adjust your air conditioning thermostat to a higher temperature and heater to a lower temperature during peak and shoulder hours or when you are not at home.
- Install timers on electric water heaters or recirculation pumps so they operate mainly during off-peak hours.
- Turn off unneeded lights during peak and shoulder hours.
- Enjoy recreational baking and electricity-consuming hobbies during the off-peak hours.
PowerShift helps all of us, and helps the world we live in.
By shifting your usage, you also help reduce the need for TEP to build and operate new power generation stations, which saves everybody money and even helps protect the environment.
